What ACCA MA covers
Management Accounting (MA) is the Applied Knowledge paper that teaches how accountants provide information to help managers plan and control a business. It covers the nature and purpose of management information, data analysis and statistical techniques, cost accounting methods such as absorption and marginal costing, budgeting, standard costing and variance analysis, and performance measurement.
The MA exam format
MA is a 2-hour on-demand computer-based exam worth 100 marks.
- Section A (70 marks): 35 objective test questions, 2 marks each.
- Section B (30 marks): three 10-mark multi-task questions.
The pass mark is 50%.
Where students lose marks
- Variance mix-ups. Using actual instead of standard figures, or getting the favourable and adverse direction wrong, is the most common error.
- Absorption costing. Over- and under-absorption of overheads needs careful, repeated practice.
- Rushed calculations. One slip early in a multi-task question can affect every later answer.
- Time management. Spending too long on one hard question leaves easy marks unanswered.
Changes from 2027
ACCA is moving to a new qualification structure. The Applied Knowledge level becomes the Knowledge level, with on-demand exams available from July 2027, and Management Accounting continues as one of its exams. If you plan to sit MA in 2027, ask us how the change affects your timing.
How TutorPOD teaches MA
Classes are led by Paul William, founder of TutorPOD, who holds ACCA, CIMA and CA Singapore qualifications. MA lessons work through each technique step by step with real-time problem solving in class, then practise exam-style objective test and multi-task questions. You get structured notes and timed mocks with personalised feedback.
Classes run live online and in person in Singapore, in small groups or 1-to-1.
Next papers
MA leads to Performance Management (PM) at Applied Skills level, and later to Advanced Performance Management (APM).
