What ACCA FM covers
Financial Management (FM) is the Applied Skills paper that teaches the decisions a finance manager makes: which projects to invest in, how to fund them, how to manage cash and working capital, and how to manage risk. It covers the financial management function and environment, working capital management, investment appraisal, business finance, cost of capital, business valuations and risk management.
The FM exam format
FM is a 3-hour computer-based exam worth 100 marks.
- Section A (30 marks): 15 objective test questions, 2 marks each.
- Section B (30 marks): three objective test cases, each with five 2-mark questions based on one scenario.
- Section C (40 marks): two 20-mark constructed response questions from working capital management, investment appraisal and business finance.
The pass mark is 50%.
Where students lose marks
- NPV errors. Missing relevant cash flows, mistiming tax or getting inflation wrong can undo a whole investment appraisal.
- No discussion. Many Section C requirements ask you to advise or discuss. Calculations alone rarely pass the question.
- Messy workings. Clear, labelled workings let the marker give credit even when a final figure is wrong.
- Formula confusion. Knowing which formula sheet item to use, and when, needs regular practice.
Changes from September 2027
ACCA is moving to a new qualification structure. June 2027 is the final sitting of the current Applied Skills exams, including FM, and the first Expertise and Strategic Professional exams are sat in September 2027. If you plan to sit FM in June 2027 or later, ask us how the change affects your route.
How TutorPOD teaches FM
Classes are led by Paul William, founder of TutorPOD, who holds ACCA, CIMA and CA Singapore qualifications. FM lessons work through each technique step by step, then practise exam-style questions with real-time problem solving in class, so you learn both the method and how to explain the answer. You get structured notes and timed mocks with personalised feedback.
Classes run live online and in person in Singapore, in small groups or 1-to-1.
Before and after FM
FM is one of the six Applied Skills papers. At Strategic Professional level, it leads to the Advanced Financial Management (AFM) Options paper.
