What ACCA FR covers
Financial Reporting (FR) is the Applied Skills paper that teaches you to prepare and interpret financial statements under IFRS Accounting Standards. It covers the conceptual framework, the main accounting standards for assets, liabilities, revenue and financial instruments, the preparation of single-company and consolidated financial statements, statements of cash flows, and the analysis of a company's performance and position.
FR is the foundation for Strategic Business Reporting (SBR), so the time you put in here pays off later.
The FR exam format
FR is a 3-hour computer-based exam worth 100 marks.
- Section A (30 marks): 15 objective test questions, 2 marks each.
- Section B (30 marks): three objective test cases, each with five 2-mark questions based on one scenario.
- Section C (40 marks): two 20-mark constructed response questions, normally one on preparing financial statements and one on interpreting them.
The pass mark is 50%.
Where students lose marks
- Rushing Section A and B. Objective test questions look quick, but careless reading of the scenario costs easy marks.
- Group accounting gaps. Goodwill, non-controlling interests, intra-group adjustments and unrealised profit are tested often and need regular practice.
- Ratios without analysis. In interpretation questions, calculating ratios earns few marks. Explaining what caused the change and what it means earns most of them.
- Not practising in the exam software. Spreadsheet and word-processing answers take practice to set out clearly.
Changes from September 2027
ACCA is moving to a new qualification structure. June 2027 is the final sitting of the current Applied Skills exams, including FR, and the first Expertise and Strategic Professional exams are sat in September 2027. If you plan to sit FR in June 2027 or later, ask us how the change affects your route.
How TutorPOD teaches FR
Classes are led by Paul William, founder of TutorPOD, who holds ACCA, CIMA and CA Singapore qualifications. FR lessons follow a clear pattern: learn the standard, see it in a worked example, then practise exam-style questions with real-time problem solving in class. You get structured notes, question practice for every section, and mock exams with personalised feedback.
Classes run live online and in person in Singapore, in small groups or 1-to-1.
Before and after FR
FR builds on Financial Accounting (FA) from the Applied Knowledge level. After FR, most students move on to Strategic Business Reporting (SBR) at Strategic Professional level.
