What CIMA E1 covers
Managing Finance in a Digital World (E1) is the Operational level Enterprise paper. It looks at the role of the finance function, how digital technology shapes the business ecosystem, how data and information support decisions, how finance functions are structured, and how finance works with other parts of the organisation such as operations, marketing and HR.
The E1 exam format
E1 is a 90-minute computer-based objective test, booked on demand at a test centre or taken online. Questions include multiple choice, multiple response and other short-answer formats. Results are on a scale up to 150, and you need 100 to pass.
Where students lose marks
- Learning lists without meaning. Questions describe a situation and ask which concept applies, so definitions alone are not enough.
- Technology terms. Cloud computing, automation, analytics and AI need to be understood well enough to apply.
- Similar options. Many questions offer two answers that both look right. Precise reading separates them.
The 2026 syllabus update
CIMA updated its syllabus in 2026. Objective tests follow the new content from January 2026, with more on digital finance and generative AI. The exam format did not change.
How TutorPOD teaches E1
Classes are led by Paul William, founder of TutorPOD, who holds CIMA, ACCA and CA Singapore qualifications. E1 lessons explain each topic with real business examples, then test it with objective test questions in class. You get structured notes and timed mocks with personalised feedback.
Classes run live online and in person in Singapore, in small groups or 1-to-1.
Operational level papers
E1 sits alongside P1 Management Accounting and F1 Financial Reporting. Together they lead to the Operational Case Study.
